Issues and Solutions

In the 1970s, scores of families fled warraged Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, many settling in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. While this was an opportunity to start new lives, their transition was challenging, especially for youth. In 1977, a group of Vietnamese refugees founded the Vietnamese Youth Center (VYDC) to provide much-needed support and practical assistance. VYDC has since grown from a one-room office offering translation services, English as a Second Languages and vocational classes, to a locally and nationally recognized multi-service center serving all youth, of all backgrounds, throughout San Francisco
